Spain’s PM gives Catalonia Monday deadline on independence decision

Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has given the Catalan government until Monday to clarify whether or not the region has declared independence.

If that is the case Prime Minister Rajoy could invoke a clause in the Spanish constitution which would remove power from the Catalan government and the region would then be under direct control from Madrid.

Many are wary of such a move as it could play into the hands of separatists.
